MODAPTO envisions flexible industrial systems that are composed of production modules enhanced by distributed intelligence via interoperable Digital Twins (DTs) based on industrial standards, seamlessly integrated within a common framework that enables coordination with other modules and systems. At the same time, MODAPTO materializes the benefits of global production view by enabling collective intelligence within modular production schemes for effective module and production line design, reconfiguration and decision support. This includes the development of production modules (robots) with novel sustainability capabilities. Within MODAPTO, each production module (i.e., the asset with its embedded control system) is augmented by a DT that may offer a plethora of additional distributed intelligence functionalities, such as optimization, simulation, self-awareness, sustainability analytics etc. Moreover, MODAPTO utilizes Asset Administration Shell (AAS) to standardize the module’s interface and enable coordination with other modules and systems via an interoperability framework.
